Bubble Tea and why I love it!

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

~ For Marci ~

Bubble Tea (Boba Tea) is a sweet drink (with a consistency similar to a smoothie) invented in Taiwan in the 1980′s.   Bubble Tea usually comes in 3 forms; milk based, tea based or fruit based.  You can choose from a variety of flavours*.  Bubble Tea can be identified by the black tapioca balls (aka pearl) or clear lychee pieces at the bottom of the clear cup and the large straws.

You can combine bases with flavours to your liking. ie:

Flavour: Taro*

Base: Milk

Bubbles: Tapioca Pearls

Another favourite of mine is:

Base: Strawberry/Pineapple

Bubbles: Tapioca Pearls

If you like smoothies, you’ll like Bubble Tea.  The tapioca pearls are the size of marbles and are chewy in texture.  You may want to ask for a sample of the tapioca peals or lychee before you go ahead and order.  I know some people don’t like the texture.

Bubble tea is refreshing, flavourful and sweet.  I love it but don’t drink it too often because is has a lot of sugar and result in empty calories.  However, it is sooo worth it!

* flavours are usually in powder form

What’s in YOUR Cup?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Did I tell you I quit drinking coffee?! Yup! Cold turkey…the first two days were NOT good.  But I am back to my normal self and I am already feeling better.  I sleep sooooo much better. Since I still like the habit of drinking something warm in a cup in the mornings, I switched to herbal tea.  My current favourite is Chocolatey Chai. Mmmmm…

This is on my wishlist! It’s called a Brewt and it is really neat!

Check out the video on their site.

So the question is…Tea or Coffee?  Loose or Bag?  Pot or cup?  Blonde or Black? One lump or two?

What’s in YOUR cup?

Yesterday was…

We spent Earth Hour chatting in the dark while wearing silly hats.  It’s a new tradition!

**No photos from silly hats Earth Hour…the camera did not want to take photos of people…it was being difficult.**

***the candle is from our wedding reception 3 years ago!***

Dying Easter eggs is fun!

Look at the pretty colours!  We had fun dying Easter eggs between supper and dessert.  Luckily we didn’t dye during Earth Hour!  Who knows what they would’ve looked like! :)

How did YOU spend Earth Hour?

PS…dying eggs with a 3 year old (my niece, {E}) is extremely scary.  Luckily we had an old Christmas paper table cloth to protect my precious granite counter tops! :)

Seedy Saturday

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

This fantastic Saturday started off with a great cup of coffee and a multi-grain english muffin with almond butter.  Then off to SEEDY SATURDAY.  It was a little crazy  but well worth the $2 admission.

The vendors were great and I got to meet the owners of Worms At Work.  They are very enthusiastic and helpful.  Mr. Worms At Work was especially enthusiastic and kept saying, “This is worm poop!”.  Good times.

I also came home with some seeds from the cutest (cutest as in sterotypical, 50 something, super nice and friendly) farmer from Saskatchewan, Jim Ternier.   He had his teenaged daughter helping him out.  I am especially excited about the Blue Fescue and Switch Grass I got from him.  I want to put those in some ornamental pots out in front of the house.  Woohoo!

Next, was off to Michael’s for some more yarn.  I am making this blanket , expect in orange, turquoise, brown and red.  Kind of a weird color combo but I am really diggin it.  The yarn is left over from this project and the colors were inspired from this project.  Tonight will be especially exciting because my husband is going out for a boys’ night and I will be at home crocheting while watching a movie! Oh yes! The excitement!  I hope to get more hexagons done.

So far so good…

Next for this awesome Saturday?  Yoga and some planting!  Seriously? What could be better???

Here are my tomato seedlings under my homemade floralight (post to come…).

Grow my pretties! Grow!
