For February’s “Card of the Month”, I chose:

It is only fitting that I chose a Valentine’s Day card for February…I mean…what else goes on in February?  I made a bunch this year and managed to sell most of them.  I chose this card as the one to showcase because of it’s simple design and it is the reason why you should never throw any of your extra supplies out.  The frame around the heart is from a christmas kit I did 2 years ago!  It matched perfectly!  I love it when that happens!

Supplies used:

Light purple brads

Red Ribbon

Brenda Walton Sweet Talk Die-Cut Mat Pad (K & Company) (patterned paper)

Brenda Walton Sweet Talk Alphabet Chipbox (K & Company) (heart)

light purple and light pink cardstock paper

Addicted to…

I’ve been having fun with my latest addiction…POLADROID.  Windows version is now available.

“Create easily high resolution Polaroid - like pictures from your digital photos.”

This little program is AMAZING!  You insert the same photo into the Poladroid camera over and over and just like the old Poloroid cameras, it comes out differently each time! In the Settings post-processing can be selected for the photo and/or border to add a “used” look with dust, scratches and fingerprints.

Sewing Paper – It’s sew…punny!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I love this paper.  As you know, I’m a sucker for puns and I was immediately attracted to it.  It also reminded me of a quilt.  That’s when the lightbulb went on.  Why don’t I sew it like a quilt?  I’ve never really understood the trend of sewing paper.  I’ve seen it done a lot in cardmaking and thought it looked OK…but I never thought of how I could use it.  It was like it was meant to be…

Starting off with a 12×12, I cut each Love Pun into individual rectangles.

I adhered the 4 rectangles onto a piece of scrap paper to make sure nothing moved out of place while I sewed.  I trimmed the paper so you couldn’t see it.

I started sewing the middle sems.

After I got the two middle sems done, I adhered what I had done onto my card.  I proceeded to sew the edges.

Voila!  A quilted puns Valentine’s Day card!

Valentine’s Day Mini Cupcake Goodness

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

I have become obsessed with making mini cupcakes.  It all started with my competitive nature and a feud I have been having with someone at work.  He brought in mini muffins (his wife made them…so really…does that EVEN count!? No…that’s what I thought!) so I countered and brought in mini cupcakes.   The cupcake itself really isn’t anything to brag about.  I use Duncan Hines Moist Deluxe Chocolate Fudge.  The “recipe” calls for 1/2 cup of oil.  How can that not make it moist and delicious?!   Really.   It’s the icing that makes it decadent.  I make butter cream icing from scratch.  If I can make it from scratch, it’s not that complicated.

Butter Cream Goodness:

4 cups icing sugar
1 cup butter
1 tbsp vanilla extract
milk or cream as needed
Mix together with hand mixer.

If anyone has a recipe for chocolate cupcakes, please send it to me!  I’d love to be able to say I didn’t use Duncan Hines.  :)
