Card of the Month: February 2009

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

For February’s “Card of the Month”, I chose:

It is only fitting that I chose a Valentine’s Day card for February…I mean…what else goes on in February?  I made a bunch this year and managed to sell most of them.  I chose this card as the one to showcase because of it’s simple design and it is the reason why you should never throw any of your extra supplies out.  The frame around the heart is from a christmas kit I did 2 years ago!  It matched perfectly!  I love it when that happens!

Supplies used:

Light purple brads

Red Ribbon

Brenda Walton Sweet Talk Die-Cut Mat Pad (K & Company) (patterned paper)

Brenda Walton Sweet Talk Alphabet Chipbox (K & Company) (heart)

light purple and light pink cardstock paper

Sewing Paper – It’s sew…punny!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I love this paper.  As you know, I’m a sucker for puns and I was immediately attracted to it.  It also reminded me of a quilt.  That’s when the lightbulb went on.  Why don’t I sew it like a quilt?  I’ve never really understood the trend of sewing paper.  I’ve seen it done a lot in cardmaking and thought it looked OK…but I never thought of how I could use it.  It was like it was meant to be…

Starting off with a 12×12, I cut each Love Pun into individual rectangles.

I adhered the 4 rectangles onto a piece of scrap paper to make sure nothing moved out of place while I sewed.  I trimmed the paper so you couldn’t see it.

I started sewing the middle sems.

After I got the two middle sems done, I adhered what I had done onto my card.  I proceeded to sew the edges.

Voila!  A quilted puns Valentine’s Day card!
