Why I am not crafting…

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Since the weather has been nice, crafting has definitely taken a backseat.  The backyard and garden are getting my attention these days and this is what I’ve been up to…

The backyard is coming along…we spent most of the weekend building a retaining wall for a flowerbed and edged off the other flowerbed with the same block.  I am SO excited for my flowers to come into bloom.  My husband was a trooper and helped me all weekend.

Long Weekend Adventures – Part One (Friday)

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Monday is the first stat holiday of the summer, Victoria Day.  This is typically the weekend where everyone starts their yardwork projects.  I am very excited because I ordered 90 perennials from Costco on Tuesday and they arrived via UPS this afternoon!  Just in time for the long weekend!  I was pleasantly surprised because the website said they would arrive within 7-10 days.  I didn’t expect them to arrive until next week!  The weather is typically unpredictable this time of year and it is not unusual to see rain and/or snow on this particuliar weekend so, Seb and I took advantage of the nice-ish weather this afternoon and started digging!

We started with extending an existing flowerbed on the west side of the yard.  Using the EdgeHog, we managed to get the turf out fairly easily.

A VERY happy husband sitting in the dirt.

We didn’t expect it to take as little time as it did, so we started the next flowerbed in the SW corner of the yard.

Next thing to do is get some blocks (we want to match the ones under the fence) to retain the earth.  Then rottertill some compost in and then the fun part of planting the flowers!  Can’t wait!

Yearning for Summer…

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

It’s hard to imagine that today my yard looked like this…

and “hopefully” in 3 months time, my backyard will have things that look like this…

Some nice warm weather would really be NICE!

sigh…:)

Seedy Saturday

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

This fantastic Saturday started off with a great cup of coffee and a multi-grain english muffin with almond butter.  Then off to SEEDY SATURDAY.  It was a little crazy  but well worth the $2 admission.

The vendors were great and I got to meet the owners of Worms At Work.  They are very enthusiastic and helpful.  Mr. Worms At Work was especially enthusiastic and kept saying, “This is worm poop!”.  Good times.

I also came home with some seeds from the cutest (cutest as in sterotypical, 50 something, super nice and friendly) farmer from Saskatchewan, Jim Ternier.   He had his teenaged daughter helping him out.  I am especially excited about the Blue Fescue and Switch Grass I got from him.  I want to put those in some ornamental pots out in front of the house.  Woohoo!

Next, was off to Michael’s for some more yarn.  I am making this blanket , expect in orange, turquoise, brown and red.  Kind of a weird color combo but I am really diggin it.  The yarn is left over from this project and the colors were inspired from this project.  Tonight will be especially exciting because my husband is going out for a boys’ night and I will be at home crocheting while watching a movie! Oh yes! The excitement!  I hope to get more hexagons done.

So far so good…

Next for this awesome Saturday?  Yoga and some planting!  Seriously? What could be better???

Here are my tomato seedlings under my homemade floralight (post to come…).

Grow my pretties! Grow!
